Fresh Wave founder Johnnie To Kei Fung and Cherry Ngan Cheuk Ling two nights ago attended the 11th Fresh Wave International Short Film Festival opening ceremony. The opening film was the Thai film HEART ATTACK. To Kei Fung said that in the current Hong Kong film environment, the film was a very suitable example for the younger generation of directors. The film although cost HK$ 2 to 3 million to make but really knew how to use the locations and the production had a lot of heart. "20 years ago I too have made 2 to 3 million low budget films." Would he contact the new Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet Ngor to ask more government support of the film industry? He said, "Actually in recent years the government has been more supportive already. Several government assisted film productions were rather successful. Under this climate, the younger generation have the confidence to join the industry." Ah To is busy with a script. If Chow Yun Fat would have time he would like to work with him again. Ngan Cheuk Ling wanted to make a romance and hoped to work with a handsome and good actor. She would not mind working with boyfriend Michael Ning (Bak Ji), but stated that her boyfriend was not handsome. "Handsome? He has his own unique style. When working with him on a romantic, I hope it won't focus on love. It will have to bring out a message, academic, then it will have depth. On and off scene we love to talk about academic stuff, we love exchanges from the soul."
