The 18th Shanghai Film Festival closed yesterday and presented its Golden Goblet awards. Although Best Actor favorite Deng Chao was not confident about his chances on the red carpet, he won Best Actor with his THE DEAD END co-stars Guo Tao and Duan Yihong.

The jury thought that all three actors were just as excellent in the film. Without any one of their performance the film would not less than perfect and eye opening. Thus it decided to present the Best Actor awards to the trio. They were very surprised and got choked up. Deng Chao's recent affair rumors affected his mood, but he stressed that he would continue to take action against untrue reports. The film's director Cao Baoping also won Best Director.

The event even presented the Chinese Film Lifetime Achievement Award to 50's star Hsia Meng. She did not accept the award in person last night so the event delivered the award to her. She was the most perfect representation of the women under the pen of Louis Cha (Jin Yong) and was once called the lead actress with the best quality in China. Her representative work included NONYA, THE PEERLESS BEAUTY and A WIDOW's TEARS. The 82 year old Hsia Meng still had her PEERLESS BEAUTY quality. She said that film was her lifelong dream and recorded her most beautiful moments. She never imagined that so many people would still remember her and give the award to her.
