The Tony Leung Chiu Wai and Zhou Xun starred summer suspense THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH) was based on the May Jia's original novel.  Directors Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung added the Zhou Xun played Zhang Xuening, the female superior office to the Tony Leung Chiu Wai played special agent He Bing, to create an intricate relationship.

Leung Chiu Wai already took THE SILENT WAR before making THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI), which had a lot to do with his admiration for Zhou Xun. Wai Jai said, "I never thought that later we would work together again, we really are connected."

Mak Siu Fai and Chong Man Keung in the past rarely made women films.  This time they chose Zhou Xun they absolutely would not let her be a flower vase.  "We have always wanted to find a chance to work with Zhou Xun.  We feel that she has a lot similarities to us.  Her thinking, her acting ideas, they all have a lot feeling.  Actually we can see He Bing and Zhang Xuening as two men, only with Zhou Xun we have a lot of feeling and emotions that we didn't have before."
