The Hong Kong Film Critic Society yesterday announced its 2009 award winners. With its earlier victory at the Golden Horse Award, KJ, the documentary that only cost HK$90,000, won Best Picture. The Golden Horse Best Supporting Actress Kara Hui (Wai Ying Hung) again won Best Actress with AT THE END OF DAYBREAK (SUM MOR). Mainland actor Wang Xueqi with BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS (SUP YUET WAI SING) won Best Actor. Best Director went to OVERHEARD (SIT TING FUNG WON)'s Alan Mak Siu Fai and Felix Chong Man Keung. THE MAD DETECTIVE (SUM TAM)'s Best Screenplay winners Wai Ka Fai and Au Kin Yi again won with WRITTEN BY (JOI SUN HO).

This year's five awards and seven recommended films were chosen after nine hours of vigorous discussions and three rounds of passionate voting. The seven recommended films are WRITTEN BY, PRINCE OF TEARS, OVERHEARD, TACTICAL UNIT - COMRADES IN ARMS (GAING DUNG BO DUI ji TUNG BAU), THE SHINJUKU INCIDENT, GLAMOUR YOUTH (MING MEI SI GUONG) and BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS. The award ceremony will take place on March 3 at the Hong Kong Film Archive.

Best Picture KJ is Cheung King Wai directed. This film is also the only nominated documentary. Earlier at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards it won three awards: Best Documentary, Best Editing and Best Sound Effect. Although this film only took 90,000 to make it defeated many big films. This time was no exception as it defeated OVERHEARD, BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS and other big productions.

Winning Best Actress with AT THE END OF DAYBREAK, Wai Ying Hung also defeated NIGHT AND FOG (TIN SHUI WAI DIK YEH YU MO)'s Zhang Jingchu, LADY COP AND PAPA CROOK (DAI SAU CHA JI NUI)'s Sammi Cheng Sau Man and REBELLION (TUNG MOON)'s Ada Choi Siu Fun. Best Actor Wang Xueqi with his excellent BODYGUARDS AND ASSASSINS performance defeated 3 NARROW GATES (SAM TIU JAT LO)'s Liu Kai Chi and OVERHEARD's Lau Ching Wan and Louis Koo Tin Lok.

Wai Ying Hung honestly said that she was very happy. Now she would like to win again at the Hong Kong Film award and jokingly asked the reporters to campaign for her. After winning the first Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actress she had many nominations but not won again. Now she has been in the business for 30 years she only won once at the Hong Kong Film Award. If she would be able to win again with this film the ending would be perfect.
