The 2009 JADE SOLID GOLD MUSIC AWARD took place last night at the Hong Kong Coliseum. Due to four major record labels' royalty dispute with TVB, their singers were all absent and the show lost a lot of its luster. The results thought was unexpected and controversial as the entire show became the Night of Emperor, the big winner with 19 awards.

Although Joey Yung Cho Yi lost the Most Popular Female Singer award to Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and ended her streak with five, she still had seven awards that included Asia Pacific Most Popuarl Female Singer and Gold Song Gold Prize. She immediately passed Eason Chan Yik Shun for the Media award lead. TVB's own Raymond Lam Fung under a round of boos won the Asia Pacific Most Popular Male Singer. Leo Ku Kui Ke won the Most Popular Male Singer. Four major record labels' singers like Eason Chan Yik Shun, Hins Cheung King Hin, Kay Tse On Kay and TVB's "god son" Hacken Lee Hak Kun all came up empty handed.

TVB's seating arrangement did not save seats for the four major record label's singers. Perhaps due to fear of a lack of gimmick from less singers, TVB deliberately arranged for rumor and news figures like Yung Cho Yi and Denise Ho Wan Si, and Justin Lo (Juk Tin) and Gary Chaw (Cho Gat) to sit together. TVB arranged for Juk Tin to present the Gold Song award to Cho Gat's MR. LONELY. Juk Tin said, "I hope this year you won't be lonely, many people will support you."

Amigo Choi Kin Bong due to his abuse case was removed, with Wong Cho Nam and Patrick Tang Kin Won taking place and teaming with Eric Tsang Chi Wai as hosts. Cho Nam and Tang Kin Won introduced themselves with "My Name Is..." Cho Nam said, "The other My Name Is...accidentally got on public transportation and took the long way, he will be back soon." At the opening, Chi Wai mentioned that this year many were concerned about who would win and who would attend. However with less people the event should be more joyous because some people who haven't won before have more chances to win with less people. Then when each award was presented, Chi Wai stressed numerous times "well deserved". Tang Kin Won also pointed out that although this year not many starting players attended, but the reserve players had a lot of potential. After a round of hard work they would become starters.

This year TVB invited a lot of outside help in hopes of keeping some of its reputation. Grasshoppers performed their classic songs to a standing ovation. However, the songs except WE (NGOR MOON) belonged to Universal. TVB's a new live band performance only had to pay royalty to CASH.

TVB returned the favor and added a Leaping Stage Award to present to Grasshoppers. Grasshoppers thanked Chan Suk Fun and their current manager Sandy Lam San San. They also thanked their mentor Anita Mui Yim Fong. Choi Yat Kit said, "Before Sister Mui passed, I promised her not to embarrassed her." Choi Yat Chi also encouraged singers to persist with their dreams forever, Chi Wai was moved to tears. Chi Wai said that although he was not a music person, he was very happy to see the music scene like a big family. Although this year some classmates got detention and could not make it, he believed that they will be back very soon.
